Cristiane: 'Two great matches against Bayern'

On Thursday, Paris Saint-Germain's women's team return to Women's Champions League action with a quarter-final clash in Bavaria and then, on March 29, Bayern Munich will come calling at the Parc des Princes. Rouge et Bleu striker Cristiane spoke to us about this enticing double-header.

Let's look back at the first round of the Champions League, against Lillestrom. You missed the first leg in Norway and the team lost (3-1). What kind of frame of mind were you in for the return leg?
"I missed the first European match of the season (in Norway) as I had to return to Brazil for personal reasons. When I came back, everyone was very supportive. It was important for me to repay that in full and I scored three goals in the return leg (4-1) and we qualified. It was a great moment for me and for the team."

Did that win get you on the right track and give you the bug to go all the way?
"In football, anything is possible. If we pull together, we can beat anyone. That's what we'll need to do against Bayern. We'll have to be as strong as possible and, above all, never give up."

What do you know about this team from Bavaria?
"German football is very strong. They never give up and they fight right to the end - that's their mentality. I played in Germany (with Potsdam and Wolfsburg) so I know their style well. I think it will be a great clash. I love playing against big teams and I think these two matches against Bayern will be very entertaining for our fans to watch."

The return leg will be played at the Parc des Princes. How does it ,ake yo feel to play on that pitch?
"It's an extra motivation to play the return leg at home, especially as it will be at the Parc des Princes. We hope to have the support of our fans for the return leg, which will undoubtedly be a decisive match."

Veronica Boquete arrived at the club from Bayern in the summer and plays just behind the strikers. How is your understanding out on the pitch?
"Playing with Vero is simple, as she is so at ease on the ball. We try to create some movement and make some runs and she always finds the right pass. It's a joy to play alongside such an intelligent player."

Do you get the feeling that what makes you so strong right now is the balance between youth and experience in the team?
"This year, the team is better balanced in terms of youth and experience. We each have our part to play and we help the youngsters play high-level football. This balance is good for the team; we're very strong collectively."
