"It's with great sadness that I have just learned of the death of my friend Louis Nicollin. My thoughts go to his wife, Colette, and his children, Olivier and Laurent.
"Louis Nicollin was a generous, warm, great man, who loved football and sport. I loved his frankness, his sense of humour and his sensitiveness, which made him so lovable.
"When I arrived at the head of Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, he gave me a great welcome. Our two clubs were contesting the title, and it was the start of a great friendship.
"I will forever have a great memory of visiting his museum with him. With passion, he had collected some unique objects connected to the history of sport and football. He had anecdotes on all of them and could talk about them for hours.
"French football has lost a great man. Louis Nicollin worked a lot to spread its word, as President of Montpellier and also within its organisations. He loved our sport and I know all football lovers loved him too. Louis Nicollin will stay forever in my thoughts and those of football."
